This morning:
Me: grandma and grandpa are coming next week. It's going to be great!
Wyatt: I wish Grandma and Grandpa had kids.
Me: They have kids, son. Me.
Wyatt: Oh. Are you an only child?
Me: I have a sister, named Julie. You've met her.
Wyatt: Well, sorry, mom. I don't know everything about your childhood. I wasn't there, you know. I was still up in heaven.

Baking 101
Jenna wanted to take her first crack at completely solo baking. She got up before the sun and made Oatmeal Blueberry Muffins.
I think my days in the kitchen are coming to an end, with this little one at the helm.
Wish I had also taken a photo of the kitchen when it was over!!!

Once Every 90 Years....
....we are all on time for a family event.
Yesterday, Aaron's grandma turned 90 so we all flew in and cleaned up and helped her celebrate.
My father in law got in the spirit by wearing her hat
The kids got in the spirit by playing with balloons.
And i tried to "photobomb" their shot.
Aaron's cousin was in disguise
we had a piano player, cake, punch and gobs of ice cream (wouldn't be a Curry event without it...)
At the end, Wyatt walked on his hands for entertainment and Jenna played Happy Birthday on the piano.
We were having a grand time til one of the residents drove by on her scooter and announced that we needed to be quiet because BINGO was about to start and they could hear.
Sorry. Ninetieth birthdays don't come along too often. Pardon is for celebrating.....

A New Way To Practice Spelling
Like any busy family, I'm always looking for ways to be efficient.
This idea pretty much beats all.
Wyatt needed to practice his spelling words AND take a bath. Since he's part fish, baths can take approximately 6 hours. So, I gave him a washable marker and had him write his speeding words while he soaked his weary body.
I feel sort of like I just sneaked veggies under the cheese of a pizza here--little work disguised as fun!

The Truth About What We Do After the kids go to bed
Aaron and I were having a good laugh about this little photo. The kids wanted to see what was so funny.
I wish you could have seen their faces as they processed the possibility of "secret ice cream."
Priceless.

Belt Test Day
Halloween/Fall Party
Labor Day
Over Labor Day, we went to Big Cedar Lodge near Branson. If you ever have the chance to go, do it!
Here's the sunset over the hot tub. We sat in the hot tub and watched fireworks a not long after this photo was shot.
We rented a boat and went out on Table Rock Lake. Isn't' Aaron manly?
We were thinking of using this for our Christmas Card photo, but I'm going to spoil it for you now. Don't we look happy? And chilly? It was the first cool day of a miserable summer and we got to wear sweatshirts...happy day!

So I'm a little behind on blogging...I know, I know, you have really missed me.
I'm going to send out a few little ones to speed you up!
HEre's the first day of school, just 3 short months ago.
Wyatt started First grade, all day (yeah, lunch and recess!), and Jenna began Fourth grade.
They've already gotten their first report cards...they both talk alot, but "are a pleasure to have in class..."
Talk? Or COMMUNICATE? Come on, people, its a life skill!

My Daughter: A Photo Commentary
I noticed this on the driveway today, written by my first-born leader.
My first born, who, when you say "Don't cross this line" will put one toe over the line and ask "you mean this line?"
My first born, who would like to know all the rules, so she can make sure everyone follows them. Except her...she's exempt.
My first born, who feels safe with boundaries, mostly so that she can use her creative little mind to think of all the things that can fall JUUUUST inside said boundary.
We had some kids over a few days ago who kept getting closer and closer to the street, so I drew a chalk line as a reminder.
Jenna couldn't resist an editing opportunity, and put her own line that COULD be crossed.

The Bravest Child...
*Warning: This Post Contains Blood-Not for the Faint of Heart*
For the first time, Aaron and I attempted separate, overlapping trips out of town last weekend. I left on Friday to go wedding dress shopping in Dallas with my sister (a whole other story), and he left Sunday for Phoenix.
Our brave little college sitter did an over-night for us. (We normally would have the in-laws keep them, but Aaron's mom is recovering from her Christmas Eve hip-breaking episode...a whole other story!)
Her "shift" began with a futile cat hunt. (See, Aaron and the kids got a new kitten (why we had to get a new kitten is also a whole other story) from the pound, and it disappeared within 10 minutes of being home. He assumed it was in the house, but had no idea where.) He finally appeared on Monday morning after nearly 48 hours of hiding.
Then, as the kids were walking to school, Jenna fell and landed ON HER FACE.
Fortunately, our sitter played softball growing up and saw lots of boo-boos, so she kept her cool. She said Jenna went down and when she came up, blood was gushing from her mouth.

She said Jenna went down and when she came up, blood was gushing from her mouth. After school, when I picked the kids up, I saw the "Blood Puddle" on the asphalt. That's alot of my kid's blood out there, people.

So my sitter calls and I"m in Dallas. She says, "I think she might need stitches." I think "This is why I NEVER LEAVE TOWN ALONE!!!!" So I called the school and asked if we have a school nurse (we do!), so they went to see her. My neighbor also swung by to help manage the chaos. Jenna went on to class with an ice pack and the nurse kept an eye on her all day. After the initial shock, she never said it hurt, or even complained.
The good news: my sitter came back on Wednesday.
The better news: Jenna is the fastest healing kids ever, and her lip is almost back to normal today...whew!

The Magic....
Today, while Wyatt and I were at Walgreens, we saw Santa.
Not a plastic, light up toy. Santa. In the flesh. In the suit. Beard and all.
Buying cough syrup or hand sanitizer or something...probably on his way to a mall to report for duty. Wyatt stared, but didn't say anything.
On the way out, we saw him again, pulling away in his Isuzu SUV.
"Wyatt, look who is driving that car!" I say.
Wyatt stares, then says, "Huh. I thought it was a sleigh."
The End.

Craft Night Options
In a few weeks, we'll be having Craft Night for all my crafty and non-crafty friends. Here are a few of the things we'll be making:
This makes a great inexpensive teacher gift. It's a min-gel pen, attached to a sticky-note pad. You can also slide a small gift card in the cellophane bag. (I market-tested this with teachers, and it's a winner!)
These are chipboard letters that come in 3" and 10" high. These are flat, and have to be tipped up against something, but we can also do them in 6" wooden letters or 10" paper mache.

An Age Old Question
A conversation in the car today between Wyatt and me:
Ahem.
W: "Mom, listen to this. There's something weird about the Alphabet Song."
Me: "Well... what?"
W: "Ok, I'll stop when I get to the part. Ready?
(singing) A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H-I-J-K-L-M-N-O-P.... See? That part... What's an 'ellymenopee'?"
On a different note, after school today, my neighbor is forcing me to attend her son's party at Yucky Cheese's.
I told her I got him a drum set.
And a kitty.

Lessons In Warfare
I knew having a boy would be different from having a girl.
James Dobson says girls are relational....Boys? They are here to protect and defend.
And they must! It's like breathing, eating and peeing in the backyard....they must!
So I found this little scene outside Jenna's room today.
The LEGO soldiers appear to be standing guard over....the Barbies? I have no idea.
And apparently, a few of them, might and brave though they were, did not survive the battle.

They were brave LEGOS.
But when the ship crashed, there was no hope for them.
RIP, LEGO...um...guys(?)

Jenna's Baptism!
So a few weeks ago at church, Jenna and Aaron went to a class about Christianity and Baptism called JoyRide. Jenna went about a year and a half ago, and chose to become a Christian but wasn't quite ready for baptism. This time, at the class, she decided she was ready to for the big day!
Here she is with the other kids, beforehand. One whole family also got baptised together!
The kids all get a cute Bible imprinted with their name!

(The girl behind Jenna with the long, blonde curly hair is a friend of mine, Kacie. She is the super-cool praise and worship leader for the childrens church, and a key in closing the deal at Joyrides!)
